Why do we sign our scoresheets by Jim Forbes According to our rulebook, section 9.16 it is the "responsability of each competitor to keep account of his score along with the scorekeeper" . This means not only verifying the sheet before signing but also verifying the entry of the scores into the computer by checking the posted results. The scoresheet is the only mechanism by which the stats people can enter results of your shooting a stage. It is also frequently the only way in which divisions and classes are actually given to the stats team. Of course, most monthly club matches do not give the shooter an opportunity to compare their sheets with posted results since the scores are usually tabulated a few days after the match. However, at major matches such as Provincials, Section Championships and National events stage results are posted before the time limit specified in our rulebook. Recently, the author of this article realized too late that scores had been entered incorrectly and lost out on winning a class award and prize at a level III match. The lesson was learned the hard way. By the way, don't forget to say thanks to the stats teams at the matches you shoot. At big matches they are frequently hidden away in a clubhouse or trailer out of sight. So the next time the person with the scoreboard asks you to sign, look before you scratch your initals at the bottom. It may be worth your while. DVC, Jim Forbes
